We just tightened up the Fair Usage Policy on ISN Free WiFi, and I want to explain what it actually does, because it is one of those features that only matters the moment you don't have it.

Every venue's WiFi runs on one shared internet line. If a single guest downloads or streams non-stop at full speed, they can eat most of that line's capacity, and everyone else in the building slows down even though they've barely used a thing. Fair usage policy is the fix: once a guest's active data crosses a threshold, their speed drops, not their access. They stay connected, just at a pace that leaves room for everyone else.

The problem is a throttle only works if it can't be dodged. And people found the gaps. Buy a fresh voucher right before the old one runs out. Log out and register again on the same device. Switch to a different, still-healthy account when yours gets throttled. All three used to hand back full speed, which meant the protection only worked until someone bothered to look for the exit.

Here is what changed:

The policy now follows the device, not just whichever login happens to be active on it. Creating a new account or switching accounts on an already-throttled device no longer resets anything.

Coverage now spans every way a guest gets online, not just one. Data plans, vouchers, ad-unlocks, survey rewards, internal accounts, and roaming partners all fall under the same check, with per-item overrides for admins who want a cheap top-up to throttle sooner than a full month plan.

Internal and SSO accounts can reset on a schedule instead of staying throttled for life, since these often stay valid for months or years sharing one allowance the whole time.

Guests get a text before and at the moment they're throttled, so a sudden speed drop reads as "you've hit your limit," not "this WiFi is broken."

It reacts in real time and survives a restart, so there is no blind spot to slip through.

None of this is about squeezing guests. It is about making sure a fair policy actually stays fair once people go looking for the gaps, so the venues running these networks don't have to choose between generous limits and a shared line that grinds to a halt.
